How Rewind handles your bookmarks.
Rewind helps you search and revisit the bookmarks already in Chrome. Browsing your timeline and searching saved titles and URLs do not require an account or an upload of your full bookmark library.
Bookmarks and data stored on your device
Rewind reads bookmark titles, URLs, folders, and save dates from Chrome to build the timeline, search results, and folder views. When you edit or delete a bookmark in Rewind, the change is made to your Chrome bookmarks. Rewind does not keep a second copy of the full library on its servers.
The extension stores preferences, notes, preview cache entries, and optional link observation and connection state in browser storage on your device. The extension does not use advertising trackers or a third-party analytics service.
Page previews
When a bookmark card is displayed, Rewind can send that individual saved URL to proxy.rewind4.com over HTTPS. The service requests page metadata for the preview, which can include a title, description, image URL, and HTTP response status. A preview image may then load from the page's own host. The preview service and image host receive your IP address and the network information needed to process those requests.
Preview requests are separate from local search and timeline browsing. If a preview fails, the saved link remains available in Rewind.
Optional link observation
If you enable link observation, Chrome lets Rewind notice redirects and repeated failures when you open a bookmarked URL. This evidence is stored on your device and used to show links that may need review. Rewind does not test your bookmarks in the background.
Optional AI app connection
You can allow Rewind to connect to a compatible AI app running a local MCP connector on this computer. The connector listens only on 127.0.0.1. Rewind sends the app the search phrase and up to 20 matching bookmark titles, URLs, and folder names per search. The full library is not copied into the connector.
Your AI app may send that query and those results to its model provider. Check that app's privacy terms before connecting it. You can turn off the connection in Rewind.
How data is used
Rewind uses bookmark and link information to provide the features described above. It does not sell that information, use it for advertising, or use it to determine creditworthiness or eligibility for lending. The use of information received from Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
Removing the extension removes its local extension data. Your Chrome bookmarks remain in Chrome, including edits you made through Rewind.
Third-party links
Opening a saved link takes you to that site's own service and privacy policy. Rewind does not control those sites.
